This fall, we have eight virtual STEM events.
When: Two Saturdays a month, September 18 to December 11
Time: 12:30 to 2:30 pm MST
Where: Online by Zoom
Who: Students from K1 to 8 and family
Cost: $45 a month
Fall Schedule
1. September 18 What is Biomedical Engineering?
2. September 25 Engineering Design & Prosthetics
3. October 09 Skeleton & Introduction to Coding
4. October 16 Muscle System & Space Exploration
5. November 13 Bones & Artificial Intelligence
6. November 20 Sustainability & Health
7. December 04 Organ on a Chip & Biosensors
8. December 11 Orthopedics & Regenerative Engineering
In September, we will teach students about the engineering design process, introduce them to the biomedical engineering career and build a prosthetic hand. We will use Minecraft Education to develop structures and reinforce concepts. Some sessions will have hands-on activities that kids can follow and try at home using materials easily found in school supplies and around the house.
In October, we will explore the skeletal system, discuss bones' function, play an online skeleton game, and build a skeleton in Minecraft. We will also discuss fractures and build a cast. We will discuss space exploration and its impact on the human body. Some sessions will have hands-on activities that kids can follow and try at home using materials easily found in school supplies and around the house.
In November, we will learn more about bones, explore 3D printing, and learn about engineering sustainable environments for health. Some sessions will have hands-on activities that kids can follow and try at home using materials easily found in school supplies and around the house.
In December, we will build upon what we have learned about the musculoskeletal system and biomedical engineering and explore applications in regenerative engineering and orthopedic surgery. The kids will model human embryonic development using play dough. We will also teach kids to explore websites of real medical products. Some sessions will have hands-on activities that kids can follow and try at home using materials easily found in school supplies and around the house.
